Eyeliner Tattoo

What is eyeliner tattoo?

Eyeliner tattoos or lash enhancement tattoos are a semi-permanent treatment that introduces pigment along your top and bottom lash line. It is done away from the waterline to prevent irritation. The tattoo can be thin like your natural lash line or thicker to look like full-fledged eyeliner.

The main idea behind eyeliner tattoos is to give your lashes the illusion of being denser and darker, without relying on actual makeup.

How long does eyeliner tattoo last?

Most permanent eyeliner tattoos last about a year and could last as long as three years. The color does fade over time because skin cells are constantly replaced, and the body breaks down the ink used in cosmetic tattoos.

Age, body chemistry, individual skin type (thicker skin fades faster) and lifestyle (sun exposure) also affect how long the color lasts.

Is eyeliner Tattoo painful?

Most clients report a tickling sensation due to movement of the eyelashes, however we do apply a secondary numbing throughout the procedure to minimize any pain.

You may need to stop taking some medications. If you take any prescription medication, you should talk with your doctor before getting permanent eyeliner tattoos. Accutane and other retinoids (vitamin A-based products used on skin) could interfere with healing. So you may need to stop using those for up to six months before you get permanent makeup.

Remove lash extensions. You’ll need to take off lash extensions about a week before your appointment. If you wait to do it until the day of, there may be glue left behind on the lash line that could interfere with the tattoo ink. You can reapply lash extensions when the tattoo eyeliner has healed.

Don’t wear contact lenses. Take your contact lenses out before the procedure. You may not be able to wear them for a few days since your eyes could be a little swollen or tender after the permanent eyeliner application.

Time other cosmetic procedures appropriately. If you’re planning to have Botox or other injections in your eye area, do it before having the permanent eyeliner applied. You should be fully healed for at least two weeks before you get eyeliner tattoos.

Stop using some skincare products. If you use skin care products such as retinol or glycolic acid that can make skin sensitive around the eye area, you should consider not using them one week before your appointment to avoid irritation.

Hold the coffee. You may want to avoid coffee and other caffeinated drinks on the day of your appointment to help you relax and avoid twitching.

Make sure it’s safe for you to get permanent eyelid tattoos. Permanent makeup may not be safe for people who are pregnant or nursing, or have compromised immune systems due to diabetes or other serious illnesses. If this applies to you, be sure to talk with your doctor before getting this procedure.

After-Care

Swelling and redness is to be expected immediately after the procedure as the skin is very thin in this area  (it will give off the appearance of as you have been crying). Itching is also normal. The length of time it takes to heal varies from person to person.  The swelling shall subside in a few hours. It takes an average about 4-5 days for the scabs to naturally fall off.  Your true color will not be apparent until the 4-6 week mark.

Appointment  (Day 1)

After the procedure, cleansing should be done by compresses with the cleanser provided for the first 4 hours to clean the eye area in a patting motion, this is to absorb excess lymph fluid. Removing this fluid prevents hardening of any blood/lymphatic fluids and lessens the chance of scabbing. DO NOT APPLY OINTMENT!

Evening: Wash your eyes gently with lukewarm water and cleanser before bedtime (Do not use rubbing motions, use dabbing motions)

Dry the area: Allow to air dry, or dry with a paper towel. DO NOT APPLY OINTMENT!

(Days 1 - 7)

The treated area may experience the following symptoms for 1 to 10 days after the treatment, which are all common and will dissipate in a short period of time. Redness, Minimal Swelling, Tenderness, Flaking, Dryness and Itching.

Clean: Wash your eyes gently in the morning and evening with lukewarm water and cleanser. (Do not use rubbing motions, use dabbing motions)

Dry the area: Allow to air dry, or dry with a paper towel before applying ointment. Apply the provided ointment on the treated area with a clean q-tip or clean fingertips.

Apply Ointment: Apply ointment sparingly 2 to 3 times a day. Use the Q-tip in a gentle dabbing motion as not to disrupt the pigmentation bonding process. This will keep the area moist and accelerate the healing. If scabs form, keep ointment on them at all times. Do not rub the area in any way.

Day 3-4: The top layer of skin will begin to flake off in little stitch looking lines, although some people do not notice the exfoliation. DO NOT PICK THEM – you will pull pigment out and end up with uneven color. Blinking helps eliminate the small pieces of pigment that have detached. It is important not to pick at it or rub the eyes.

Day 7-9: All shedding should be complete. You are safe to shower facing the shower head. During this time, the pigment may appear to have vanished, this is a normal part of the healing process, and the pigment will re-emerge.

Day 10: Pigment, if it faded, should have returned. What you see now is very close to the healed result. If it is not as you like, please wait the final 4 weeks and return for a touch-up procedure.

NOTE:

  • Healing usually takes 5 to 7 days to heal.

  • When showering make sure you wash your hair with your head tilted backwards to avoid shampoo and conditioner from getting into the treated areas. You may apply the ointment provided or aquaphor to cover your eyeliner. Do not face the shower head because of water pressure purposes. You will be dry healing the area. This means no water on the area for a minimum of 10 days. This includes sweating. When showering or washing your face, please make sure water is not running into the eyes. You can use oil free wipes clean your face, just make sure you are avoiding the eye area.
